Physical Therapy for Running Injuries
Running is an extremely repetitive sport, of all the sports. This leads to stiffness and overuse injuries.
Here are some common running injuries we treat:
I had a previous knee injury that was aggravated by triathlon training and races. It was painful and seemed to be getting worse. Lara treated the root cause vs. the symptoms. She barely even had to touch the painful knee! I was so worried that something else was wrong be she ruled out bigger problems and treated the real issue. I was able to get to the starting line of my races pain free and my knee has been great since. I couldn't have done it without Lara's help!" -Todd, 49, Boulder
I’ve loved to run on the trails my entire life, but had increasing problems over the past several years with my Achilles tendon and calf, to the point that I simply couldn’t run anymore. I tried standard physical therapy, but that actually made it worse. Then Lara was recommended to me, but when she focused on my core during the first session, I had to remind her that I was there for a different reason. She replied “Yeah, I know, but this is the root of your problem.” I gave her the benefit of the doubt and was eventually rewarded with an almost complete reduction in the swelling and pain – back to normal! And that was with a stubborn patient who didn’t stretch as much as she instructed. Just to prove that this was not a fluke, she did it again on my other Achilles when it became a problem. Unconventional? Yes. Effective? Absolutely! And there’s the side benefit of fun conversations during the therapy…" - Mark R., early 60s, Boulder, CO
As a runner for over 40 years, I thought I should scale back before damage was done. Well, too late! With a subsequently diagnosed twisted L5/L4, my sciatic nerve on right side had gone out of service and the top and bottom were out of communication, resulting in atrophied this and that. Dr Lara worked with me for 18 months to re-imagine my core muscles to take pressure off the L4/L5 and restart the sciatic communication. Steady, dedicated therapy with her got me back on track, and healing is going well! -Vance M., 71, WILD Foundation, Boulder, CO
